You are NOT alone

According to the latest RAND study on school working conditions:

  • Job-related Stress: 83% of school principals report experiencing frequent, job-related stress

    • By comparison, 74% of teachers and only 30% of other working adults report similar stress levels in 2024.

  • Active Burnout: 46% of principals report feeling actively burned out

  • Desire to Quit: 34% of principals report that they are actively considering leaving their current job by the end of the school year

  • Depressive Symptoms: Approximately 28% of principals report experiencing clinical symptoms of depression

It’s not just a problem for Principals; it is a problem for our young learners too!

  • In 1999-2000, 11% of public school principals had 20 or more years of principal experience. By the mid-2020s, that number collapsed to just 4% (NCES, 2022).
